Islamic Feminism, let’s talk about it. I’ve previously read of Islamic Feminists who believe that the headscarf and all forms of it are acts of suppression, but I like to think that this is one viewpoint of many in a complicated issue.

  1. psychosaiqa said: i don’t feel like hijabs, burqas or niqabs are suppressive if they’re worn by someone who has made a conscious decision to wear them. but it’s when they’re forced upon women and required for them to wear that it becomes suppressive/oppressive.
  2. electrickazoo said: So true. I’ve met many Muslim women that are outraged by the idea that it’s a symbol of oppression. Mohammed’s wives were the original wearers of the veil. It wasn’t until the 20th and 21st century it was used to suppress ladies and their rights.
